Hair Transplant Procedure
We take every step to ensure that you have a successful hair restoration procedure to give you the head of hair that you want. Dr. Shakov is specialty trained and will give you a hair transplant that caters to your specific needs and wants. Our five-step restoration process ensures that you’re taken care of at every step of the way.
Step 1
Doctor Maps Out Treatment Area on Head
Everyone’s hair loss pattern is unique. So the procedure starts by evaluating the organic hair growth pattern and determining where to transplant the follicles to create the most natural-looking hair. Dr. Shakov will work with you to make sure he is addressing the specific areas you are most concerned about. Once the treatment is mapped, he will apply a local anesthetic.
Step 2
Follicles Are Removed from Existing Hair (FUE)
Using a highly specialized, one-millimeter diameter tools, Dr. Shakov will remove individual follicles from your existing hair. This unique tool makes a tiny circular incision around the follicle that is barely noticeable after the procedure. The incision leaves no scars, stitches, and is pain-free during the process. The donor area appears mostly unchanged after the procedure and the transplanted hair grows back naturally.
Step 3
Hair Follicles Are Inserted in Balding Areas (FUT)
Once the follicle area is cut, the graft begins. Using a tweezer-like instrument, the follicle is then prepped for transfer to ensure the follicle remains in a healthy condition. The follicles are then arranged in groups depending on the number of hairs from each follicle. Then Dr. Shakov will make a small incision into the transplant area and the follicle is inserted.
Step 4
7-Day Recovery Time
The tiny incisions made during the process will heal within just a few days. Patients have reported mild discomfort to no pain in transplant areas after the surgery. The area will be slightly red and you may have some small scabs that will wash off in a few days. In many cases, people return to work the day after the procedure is completed. For patients who want complete discretion, we recommend returning to work after the 7 day healing period.
Step 5
Full Growth in 6-9 Months
Over the next 6-9 months, your newly transplanted hair will start growing in. We usually notice that our patients have full growth between the 6 and 9 month period. Hair growth rates depend on the patient’s unique biology. The hair will grow in a very organic pattern, in your natural color, and no one will know that you have gotten the surgery.

How Much Does Hair Transplantation Cost in Freehold, NJ?
Hair replacement surgery has a range of costs depending on the specifics of your graft in Freehold, NJ. If you need more transplantation, the surgery will cost more. However, if you just need to add a little length to your hairline, it will cost less. -
Is FUE or FUT the right procedure for me?
If you are considering hair replacement surgery, you will have two options: FUE and FUT. We generally recommend FUE for people who have minimal hair loss and like to wear their hair short. FUT uses a strip method of transplantation is recommended for patients with very advanced hair loss and uses a larger strip for harvesting. When you consult with Dr. Shakov he will recommend which is right for you.
-
How Should I Prepare for The Surgery?
Once you are scheduled for the procedure, you don’t have much to prepare. Depending on your hair and post-surgery priorities, we may recommend getting a haircut. The donor area will require being shaved for the procedure, so you may want to cut your hair in a way that the shaved area blends naturally. Other than a haircut, you may wish to arrange time off of work for recovery.
-
Are There Any Risks or Side Effects to Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation is very safe when done by a board-certified surgeon. The biggest risks are that you may experience a little hair loss in the beginning. Hair shafts may fall out of the transplanted follicle, but since the follicle is still intact they will grow back in time. If the donor hair isn’t immune to cause of the baldness, they may also fall out over time. These side effects can be mitigated by working with an experienced surgical professional like Dr. Shakov.
-
How Quickly Will My New Hair Grow?
Your transplanted hair will typically grow at the rate of your other hair, but it all depends where in the hair growth cycle the follicle is at the time of transplant. Some of our patients start seeing growth after 3 months, but it all depends on the individual. We generally see full hair growth after 6-9 months for all of our patients.
-
Will the Transplant Look and Feel Natural?
The procedure uses your own hair follicles. That means the transplantation follicles will match the color and texture of the hair your naturally grow. Dr. Shakov works diligently to map out the transplant so that the new hair grows in the patterns and direction your hair grew prior to hair loss. This is the most important part of ensuring the procedure looks natural. That is why it is so important to work with an experienced surgeon who can map the new growth as organically as possible.
